We can legislate to better the air we
breathe and the waters in our oceans, lakes, rivers and
streams, but we need only be aware of our options to decide to
eliminate harmful and unnecessary poisons from our daily diet.
Commercial growers, often with the support of drug and chemical
manufacturers, bombard our fruits and vegetables with poisonous
pesticides, and/or genetically modify their very essence in the
interests of more profits.
While the effects of Genetically Modified
(GM) produce on humans has yet to be adequately determined,
these products have already been made available
for distribution and consumption throughout the United States,
and in other parts of the world1. And, while the toxicity of the various
chemicals/pesticides used by commercial growers is well
documented, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has
defined and set an "acceptable" toxicity limit for daily human
consumption, the average child ages 1-6 exceeds the acceptable
dosages daily. While we require labeling of chemical contents on
boxed and canned goods, an apple that might, under laboratory
analysis, reveal a toxicity that rivals paint remover can be
sold for human consumption without a warning label of any kind in
any super-market in the America. And they are.
And they are being eaten by our
children...2
Why do we do what we do? In no small part
to ensure that our families, friends, and others who care, can eat
fruits and vegetables that really are good for
them.
At Heart & Soil Farms we have
undertaken an awareness campaign to get the word out to legislators
and parents about the risks associated with pesticide and
chemical-laden foods, fertilizers, etc. and their immediate impact
on the lives of our children, the health of our communities and
the long term effects on the environment.
Please take the time to explore some of
the links
below for more detailed information on problems with the
commercial use and consumption of pesticides and genetically
modified produce. Also take a look at some of the related links on
our Links Page.
Thanks, from your friends at Heart & Soil Farms...

Genetically Modified Produce in his article "Genetically Modified
Foods- Are They a Risk to Human/Animal Health?"you can find it at:

2. According to a study by The Environmental
Working Group, a nonprofit research group based in Washington, D.C.,
"more than a quarter million American children ages one through five
ingest a combination of 20 different pesticides every day. More than
1 million preschoolers eat at least 15 pesticides on a given day.
Overall, 20 million American children five and under eat an average
of eight pesticides every day" Click_Here to
